The Shul of New York
A Synagogue for Spiritual Judaism

Our joyful Shabbat services are led by Hazzan Adam Feder and
our honored guest Rabbis, featuring live music by The Shul Band.
Hazzan Adam Feder, brings a unique blend of musical, spiritual, joyful and compassionate presence to the The Shul of New York, the community he helped create. Ordained as a hazzan, Adam’s deep commitment to healing and inclusion is rooted in both his artistic and social service backgrounds.

His love of Jewish music has its roots in his grandmother's kitchen, her Yiddish melodies, her cooking and years of Passover Seder musical Marathons, accompanying his father's accordion on his guitar.
Adam holds a Master’s degree in Social Work from the Hunter College School of Social Work and spent many years working at Calvary Hospice, offering support to individuals and families during some of life’s most profound transitions. His work there continues to inform the depth of empathy and care he brings to his spiritual leadership and the adult and teen Bar/Bat MItzvah training he conducts.
A dedicated practitioner of meditation since the late 1980s, Adam is currently in training to become a teacher in the White Plum lineage of Zen Buddhism, reflecting his long-standing engagement with contemplative practice and interfaith spiritual exploration.
Whether through music, The Shul Band, prayer, meditation, or simply showing up with presence and compassion, Hazzan Adam Feder remains a guiding force in The Shul of New York’s mission to be an uplifting, inclusive, and healing community.

Sponsor an Oneg
Honor a special event by providing food and drink for the Shabbat Afterparty at an in-person service, or by making a donation to sponsor a 'virtual Oneg' at a Zoom service. It's a lovely way to share your celebration with the congregation and there are perks! You'll be offered the opportunity to light the Shabbat candles, and if you wish, to tell the congregation what you are celebrating or memorializing.
Host a Community Candle Lighting
We are a participatory congregation. Once a month on Shabbat in lieu of a Shabbat service, a member of the Shul community leads a short candle lighting ceremony on Zoom. Leaders are guided by a brief outline which includes the Shabbat candle blessing, kaddish and kiddush, and leaves room for each leader to be as creative as they wish. Contact us to learn more or host.
We're all volunteers! Would you like to volunteer to help during our in-person services? Contact Karen Seidman at Karen@theshulofnewyork.org to volunteer.
Fine Print: We are required to strictly adhere to FDNY occupancy regulations for the safety of all. While we expect to accommodate everyone, we are required stop admitting people when occupancy limits are reached. By attending any Shabbat Service you are giving permission for these pictures and/or videos to appear on the Shul website, social media, and/or other Shul publications. ... Lawyers, feh!
